Have We Given Up On 350?

Have we given up on 350?  The latest 350[sic].org thing has been this Terrifying New Math — essentially giving up on 350, which should be a terrifying thing for all of us!  The most active, organized, grassroots global warming organization is not living up to its name.  It’s saying there is a new goal of no more than 2 degrees C.  The website states, “some of the world’s leading climate scientists have now revised the highest safe level of CO2 to 350 parts per million. That’s the last number you need to know, and the most important. It’s the safety zone for planet earth.”   According to Dr. James Hansen, who came up with the 350 limit:

“If humanity wishes to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilization developed and to which life on Earth is adapted, paleoclimate evidence and ongoing climate change suggest that CO2 will need to be reduced from its current 385 ppm to at most 350 ppm.”

What will it be?  350 where we have half a chance.  Or 2 degrees C which will be much, much worse than we have it now — with no chance “”to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilization developed and to which life on Earth is adapted.”

The focus must shift from reducing greenhouse gas emissions to dealing with all atmospheric CO2, whether it’s what is being emitted now, or what has been emitted, which is causing our current problems and will only be magnified in the future if that is not dealt with.

How do we do it?  Read this site!  More life in the biosphere and in the soil.  Simple!  Not necessarily easy, but simple.  The sooner the better!!
